Case description
On March 22, 2021, the HACC found ex-judge Anton Haidur from Zakarpattia guilty of taking a bribe from a resident for satisfying a civil claim in his favor. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, deprived of the right to be a judge for 3 years, and all property was confiscated.
Anton Haidur is the former head of the Mizhhiria District Court in Zakarpattia. He had been working there since 1996, and in 2001 he was appointed a judge indefinitely.
In February 2020, he offered a local resident to “solve” his issue with a civil claim for UAH 15,000. Later, Haidur received a bribe in a plasticine box; and then the detectives caught him red-handed.
The case was qualified under Article 368, part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt by an official of an improper advantage). Haidur was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, confiscation of all property, and a ban on being a judge for 3 years.
The appellate instance did not change the verdict in response to the appeals. Similarly, the Supreme Court left everything in force.
